Artists' fiber panels, stories, and photographs from the event will be included in the gallery show "YARN n YEARS" in Cleveland's Waterloo Arts District opening in October 2014. Description: YARN n YOGA is Cleveland’s first large-scale yarn bomb and our opportunity to bid farewell to the soon-to-be demolished historic Euclid Beach Pier through an environmentally-conscious art project. Yarn bombing is a temporary, mess-free type of graffiti that engages not only accomplished fiber artists but community members who have never picked up a knitting needle. On July 25th, artists will be attaching pre-made fiber panels to the pier, panels that illustrate and reflect memories of the Pier, Euclid Beach, and Lake Erie. That night, everyone will be able to continue the work of our artists by wrapping and weaving donated yarn through the guardrails of the Pier. A free sunset, vinyasa flow yoga and meditation is to follow on the Beach. Community groups with a special interest in the past and future of this lakefront property will be on hand collecting stories and memories of the Pier, the once-amusement park, the grand bandstands, as well as hopes for the future. Our motto: Together we can knit strong communities! |
